Frequently Asked Questions

Physiotherapy is a science-based, hands-on approach that helps people restore movement, reduce pain, and enhance physical function after injury, surgery, or chronic conditions. It focuses on improving how your body moves so you can live and feel your best, whether that means returning to sport, work, or everyday activities without discomfort.

At Royal Rehab & Wellness Centre, our registered physiotherapists take time to understand your unique goals and challenges. Each session begins with a comprehensive assessment to identify the root cause of your pain or limitation, whether it’s muscle imbalance, joint restriction, poor movement patterns, or nerve involvement.

Your first appointment at Royal Rehab & Wellness Centre is designed to set the foundation for your recovery,  combining clinical expertise with a personalized, evidence-based approach. Here’s what to expect:

Before You Arrive

You’ll receive a secure link to complete your online intake form. This helps us understand your medical history, current symptoms, and treatment goals in advance. If you prefer, you can complete the form in person before your session, but please arrive a little earlier to ensure your appointment starts on time and your full session time is reserved for care.

Your Initial Assessment

During your first visit, your physiotherapist will take time to listen to your story,  what brought you in, how it impacts your daily life, and what you hope to achieve.
This is followed by a detailed clinical assessment that may include:

  • Movement analysis: observing posture, walking, and functional movements
  • Joint and muscle testing: assessing range of motion, strength, and stability
  • Palpation and tissue evaluation: identifying muscle tension, inflammation, or restricted areas
  • Neurological screening: evaluating nerve involvement, sensation, or reflexes when needed
  • Specialized tests: tailored to your condition

Each part of the assessment is based on current clinical research and best-practice guidelines.

Collaborative Goal Setting

After your assessment, your therapist will explain their findings in clear terms, helping you understand the “why” behind your symptoms. Together, you’ll develop a personalized treatment plan that may include:

  • Hands-on manual therapy
  • Exercise prescription and movement retraining
  • Education on posture, ergonomics, and activity modification
  • Modalities such as laser therapy, shockwave therapy, dry needling, or MPS microcurrent therapy (when appropriate)

You’ll receive a clear outline of what to expect over the coming weeks, including treatment frequency, home exercises, and measurable goals for progress.

Please bring:

  • Any relevant medical imaging or reports (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound)
  • Your extended health insurance information
  • A list of current medications (if applicable)
  • Comfortable, flexible clothing (e.g. shorts, tank top) for movement and assessment

Each follow-up session is designed to build on your progress. Your physiotherapist will reassess, adapt, and refine your plan regularly to ensure you’re moving toward your goals safely and effectively.

You’ll receive ongoing guidance, exercise progressions, and hands-on care based on your body’s response. Your physiotherapist remains your primary point of contact throughout your recovery, maintaining one-on-one continuity, collaborating with your physician (if needed), and ensuring full transparency at every stage.
